About the Program

Our Auto Body Repair and Painting (ABRP) program can put you on the road to a successful career in the collision repair and auto body industry. Our program is published by the I-CAR Education Foundation and is based on the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) Auto Body Task List and the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) technician certification standards.

Classroom and hands-on laboratory work is offered in a modern and well-equipped facility.

Technical Standards

Technical Standards describe some of the essential mental, physical, and behavioral skills that are necessary for successful participation in and completion of courses in this curriculum.

Thinking Skills

General

Apply mechanical and design concepts to diagnose auto body damage and select appropriate repair processes.

Specific
  • Read and follow auto body technical specification sheets and work orders.
  • Analyze auto body damage to identify body parts needing to be replaced.
  • Measure auto body components for correct fit.
  • Measure and calculate correct amounts of chemicals and solvents for paint application and removal.

Sensory/Observation Skills

General

Make observations and assessments of auto body condition.

Specific
  • Inspect cosmetic panels and identify auto body irregularities.
  • Distinguish readings on paint scales.
  • Distinguish color variations.

Motor Skills

General

Possess sufficient physical strength, flexibility, and dexterity to do auto body and refinishing work.

Specific
  • Operate necessary tools and equipment.
  • Remove, repair, and replace damaged components and small parts.
  • Position and maneuver in confined spaces.
  • Work at varying heights.
  • Lift and transport equipment and materials as necessary.

Environmental Tolerance

General

Function safely in an auto shop environment.

Specific

Work for prolonged periods amidst: Various levels of noise, Heat, Sharp tools and materials, Electrical equipment, Chemicals and toxins, Dust and fumes, Machinery with moving parts, Moving objects and vehicles

In addition to the Tuition, other costs include:

  • Textbooks, Tools and Supplies: Approximately $1000-$1300.
  • $50 I-CAR Student Access + $100 optional I-CAR end of year test out.
